As the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Gulf Air has played a major role in establishing important links between the Gulf, Middle East, Europe, Indian Subcontinent and Far East. With over 60 years’ experience in flying cargo throughout the region and across the world, Gulf Air today at our main hub in Bahrain, provide 24-hour coverage for all transit cargo, so transfer is both smooth and swift. That means a container arriving in Bahrain from London, for instance, can be on its way to Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Jeddah, Kuwait or Dubai within our minimal connecting time.
Our service offers priority uplift and confirmed allocation on the required flight. Courier bags or units can be moved as cargo or as excess baggage. Couriers are handled on a priority basis, being the last material to be loaded and the first to be offloaded at the final destination, ensuring fast and easy customs clearance at the final destination and an expedited delivery to the end customer.

The Gulf Air Express freight service offers
Carrying special cargo services require extra precautions and attention to detail due to the unique needs of the cargo being transported.
We have an impressive history safeguarding your valuable goods such as bank notes, gold, jewellery and diamonds, which are all treated with the greatest of care. These consignments are kept in a maximum security locker and safeguarded at all times.
We have teams of highly qualified licensed staff specially trained in the acceptance, loading and handling procedures of dangerous goods so we can move your cargo safely and efficiently.
Gulf Air provides special handling for perishable cargo such as fresh meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables and flowers. This is achieved through new freezer and cool room facilities to ensure perishable consignments are handled and delivered to customers fresh.
Automobiles are accepted for transportation on wide-body aircraft only. The vehicles must be accompanied by a "Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods" and a vehicle inspection form must be completed by the station of origin and destination, ensuring the vehicle is in good condition throughout the journey.
Gulf Air offers an unaccompanied baggage service on all its routes to passengers holding an international ticket, allowing personal effects to be sent ahead to their destination. We also offer an online air waybill tracking service for added peace of mind so you can track your cargo every step of the way.
We are now proud members of the International Pet and Animal Transportation Association (IPATA) allowing us to expand our specialised cargo services to pet owners globally. All live animals on Gulf Air travel as cargo. An online air waybill tracking service is provided for your peace of mind, so you know where your precious pets are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
When your pets fly with Gulf Air, they no longer have to endure the six month quarantine period in the EU when shipped directly from Bahrain, provided they have already been vaccinated against rabies and have been micro-chipped.
The acceptance of live animal consignments is subject to the conditions as described in IATA's Live Animals Regulations and to Gulf Air regulations. The conditions applicable to acceptance of live animals are as follows:
Health and condition of animals: Animals in a consignment must not show any sign of illness. The carriage of animals in an advanced state of pregnancy is generally prohibited.
Carrier: Carrier must be clean, leak-proof and escape-proof to allow safe handling during carriage. A special "Live Animals" label shall be affixed with the handling instructions completed.
Food and additional articles: Additional articles accompanying the shipment must be included in the chargeable weight and if being shipped as separate pieces, marked as forming part of the shipment.
Reservations: Confirmation must be obtained and received of reserved space on flights and possible connecting flight(s) of other airlines up to the airport of destination.
Consolidation: Live animals may not be consolidated with other goods but a consolidated shipment may be wholly comprised of live animals.
Documents: Import permit, Health documents, Shipper's Certification for Live Animals are generally required for every shipment of live animals.
Gulf Air Pharma has been developed to cater for pharmaceutical shipments that need careful temperature management throughout the journey to ensure the products arrive in useable condition.
Pharma ensures priority handling and a coordinated shipment process with multiple checkpoints throughout the journey. At Gulf Air’s Bahrain hub, a dedicated Pharma team is assigned to look after every shipment. The warehouses used by the airline in Bahrain are equipped with sophisticated, well-managed cool rooms maintained at specific temperatures. Gulf Air overseas stations are equipped with similar cool-room facilities.
Human remains MUST have confirmed reservations for all sectors of travel prior to acceptance, including carriage on other airlines.
Human remains MUST be packed in a coffin, either lead or zinc lined and hermetically sealed ( air-tight). The coffin should be packed either in an outer wooden case and/or covered by canvas or tarpaulin so that the nature of the contents is not visible.
All human remains shipments MUST be accompanied by a certificate of death issued by a competent authority. This may be retained by one of the deceased family members, if they are travelling on the same flight.

Certificate for packing of coffin (the body must be wrapped into two bags of thick and transparent polythene, one from head end and other from foot end before packing into the coffin).
Specific country requirements for other importation documentation are shown in TACT section 7.3 although it is the shipper’s responsibility to provide all documentation, all assistance should be offered. Embassies or Consulates are able to assist with specific details of documentation.
The airway bill should be annotated in the handling information box if documents are attached. Human remains are surcharged as detailed in TACT Section 3.7. All shipments MUST be prepaid.
The special cargo column of the cargo manifest should be endorsed "HUM".
