General Baggage Rules

Your baggage allowance will depend on your ticket fare family, Falconflyer membership and final destination.

Not Allowed

  • Irregular shaped baggage
  • Blanket/fabric wrapped baggage
  • Baggage without a flat surface (ball shaped)
  • Matted woven/plastic baggage
  • Bags with long, loose straps
  • Any item of baggage exceeding 158cm and less than 215cm shall be considered as ‘Over Size’ baggage and must be charged as an extra piece of baggage.
  • Boxes, suitcases, briefcases, bags, cardboard boxes, pre-packed electrical goods (except TVs) are acceptable for carriage; as long as they do not exceed the aforesaid dimensions.
  • Boxes, suitcases, cardboard boxes etc. can be wrapped in the plastic wrap provided at Airport wrapping facilities.
  • TVs, with a maximum of 50 inches, in a pre-packed condition may be accepted as checked-in luggage. TVs larger than 50 inches should be shipped through cargo.
  • All baggage over 23kgs must carry a Heavy Tag, with the actual weight clearly marked on the tag. The maximum weight of any single item of baggage must not exceed 32kgs. Any baggage heavier than 32kgs must be repacked and its weight reduced before acceptance (exceptions include mobility aids). Cabin baggage should be weighed and a cabin baggage label attached.

Children and Infants

Baggage details mentioned below:

Children aged 2 years + get the same baggage allowance as adults, plus a child's collapsible stroller/pushchair and a child's car seat.
Infants under 2 years get one piece of 15 KGs for checked baggage, plus a collapsible stroller/pushchair and an infant car seat. Infants are entitled to one cabin baggage (maximum dimensions 44 x 35 x 20 cm or 17 x 13 x 7 inches) with a total weight of 3 Kgs.

Students Travelling with Gulf Air

Baggage details mentioned below:

University students may be eligible for free check-in baggage in addition to their ticketed baggage allowance.

All Students are required to present either their valid student ID card, student visa or university acceptance letter at check-in. The additional baggage allowance is applicable to students travelling from their home country to the University country and vice versa only.

Students traveling in Falcon Gold will be eligible for an additional one free check-in baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kgs.

Students traveling in Economy Class to or from Bahrain, or staying in Bahrain for more than 24 hours, are eligible for an additional one free checked in baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kgs.

Students traveling in Economy Class to or from any other destination (excluding Bahrain) within our network are eligible for a complimentary 9 kgs additional weight per piece to their ticketed check-in baggage allowance.

  • If your ticket allows 1 Piece the total weight should not exceed 32 kgs.
  • If your ticket allows 2 Pieces the total weight should not exceed 32 kgs per piece.
  • Depending on the baggage allowance of the ticket purchased, our complimentary student baggage is limited to a maximum of 2 pieces only.
  • The additional baggage allowance is only applicable on Gulf Air operated flights.

Eligibility:

  • This offer is available for full‑time students who hold a valid student ID from an accredited school or university of higher education.
  • Students must be currently enrolled in a higher education institution and must have their student ID or university acceptance letter or Student Visa available upon request at any airport check‑in counter.
  • Failure to provide valid student identification will result in the extra student baggage being forfeited and Excess baggage at the applicable rates on day of departure been charged.

Important Notice From Gulf Air

Gulf Air assumes no liability for scratches, minor cuts, and dents or items that protrude from baggage, such as wheels, luggage straps, and handles, since during the course of normal baggage handling, your baggage may show evidence of wear and tear.
Gulf Air does have liability for loss, delay, or major damage to baggage which is limited by international convention. Passengers may declare a higher value to us at the check-in point and pay the additional charges if they wish.
Passengers may also consider taking their travel insurance or increasing the amount if they consider the contents of their baggage to be of high value. Passengers wishing to check in items other than conventional baggage must ensure that it is adequately packaged. The Company has the right to decline or accept items that are considered to be inadequately packed and protected with no liability.
In line with IATA regulations and the legislation of many countries, should your checked baggage weighs more than 32kg, our Customer Service staff will ask you to repack your bag.

Zone 1” The Gulf”: Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Dammam, Dubai, Doha, Kuwait, Jeddah, Muscat, Salalah, Riyadh, Gassim, Medina.

Zone 2” Middle East, Africa & Indian subcontinent”: Alexandria, Cairo, Sharm El Sheikh, Amman, Colombo, Calicut (Kozhikode), Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, Chennai, Kochi, Dhaka, Bangalore, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, Thiruvananthapuram, Addis Ababa and Tel Aviv.

Zone 3” The Far East & Europe”:  Bangkok, Manila, Singapore, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Istanbul, Bodrum, Larnaca, Baku, Moscow, Frankfurt, Paris, Nice , London, Manchester, Casablanca, Malaga , Milan, Rome, Munich.

Terms and Conditions

General:

  • Available on Gulf Air-operated flights only.
  • Can be purchased from gulfair.com booking engine, Manage My Booking, Gulf Air local offices, or Worldwide Contact Centre.
  • Prepaid excess baggage rates will not be available at the airport; standard excess baggage rates will apply.
  • Checked-in baggage exceeding ticket class baggage allowance and prepaid excess baggage will be charged at standard airport rates.
  • All fees given in US Dollars will be collected in equivalent local currencies.
Changes:
  • Changes to the purchased baggage allowance can be done up to 24 hours before the departure time.
  • The passenger may change the flight voluntarily and utilise the prepaid excess baggage for other flights or other sectors.
  • The purchased excess baggage cannot be transferred to another passenger.
  • The purchased Prepaid Excess Baggage will be valid for one year from the purchase date.
Refunds:
Please note the circumstances under which we will not be able to refund are:
  • Voluntary (where Gulf Air is not the cause for such cancellations) cancellation of the booking.
  • Voluntary cancellation of the excess baggage allowance.
A refund would be provided in all the involuntary situations (where Gulf Air is the cause for such cancellations) and the customer was unable to travel.

Pay with Miles:
Alternatively, you can now pay for your excess baggage using Gulf Air Falconflyer miles in multiples of 23 KGs for Economy class and 32 KGs for Falcon Gold class. For more details, visit the Excess Baggage Redemption page.
